APPLY FOR FREE SCHOOL MEALS

Check with your local council to see if your child qualifies for free school meals and find out how to apply.

What you need to know

  • All children in reception, year 1 and year 2 at state schools in England automatically get free school meals.
  • The current cost of school meals is £11 per week.  This should be paid weekly in advance at the school office.  Our Admin staff are currently checking arrears on dinner money and will contact any parents who owe to arrange payment.

Please remember that if you receive any of the following benefits you may be entitled to claim Free School Meals for your child/ren.

To qualify for free school meals the child’s parent must get one of these benefits or credits:

    • Income Support
    • Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
    • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
    • the guaranteed part of Pension Credit
    • Child Tax Credit (CTC) as long as:
      – it doesn’t include an amount for childcare
      – they are not also getting Working Tax Credit, and
      – their household income (worked out by HM Revenue & Customs) is no more than £16,190 a year.
    • A Working Tax Credit ‘run-on’ payment for four weeks after stopping work, or reducing working hours to under 16 hours a week
    • Universal Credit.

You can claim by completing a form available from the school office or visit www.manchestercitycouncil.gov.uk and search for free school meals.  If you are uncertain or require any help please ask at the school office.

    Packed Lunches

It is important that children should not be changing from packed lunch to school meals on a daily basis. This is only allowed on a Friday when the child can participate in the school “Friday Club”.  This allows a child to have a paid school dinner instead of packed lunch on that day only.

If your child/ren wish to change to dinners on a permanent basis then you must inform the office immediately.
